The Miro Museum Fundació Joan Miró contemporary art museum in Barcelona’s Montjuic district
Located in the Montjuic district of Barcelona, the Fundació Joan Miró contemporary art museum is a showcase of the works of Joan Miro and other contemporary artists.
To me, Joan Miro’s art is quirky but enjoyable, distinct and simple. It is like a fun art science experiment. Wikipedia describes Joan Miro as: “Earning international acclaim, his work has been interpreted as Surrealism, a sandbox for the subconscious mind, a re-creation of the childlike, and a manifestation of Catalan pride.”
I found a few quotes by Joan Miro that further reveal his character.
“I try to apply colors like words that shape poems, like notes that shape music.” – Joan Miro
“My characters have undergone the same process of simplification as the colors. Now that they have been simplified, they appear more human and alive than if they had been represented in all their details.” – Joan Miro
“I feel the need of attaining the maximum of intensity with the minimum of means. It is this which has led me to give my painting a character of even greater bareness.” – Joan Miro
To see more of Joan Miro and the other contemporary artists’ works, you’ll have to visit the Miro Museum in Barcelona.
How to get to the Miro Foundation museum
The Bus Turistic is the easiest way. The popular Barcelona hop-on-hop-off bus makes it easy for tourist to see the sites and get to the top Barcelona attractions. There is a bus stop right in front of the Miro Foundation.
Along the way and at the museum are many great views overlooking Barcelona.
Otherwise, take the metro to the Parl.lel stop and then take the funicular (a fancy word for a subway car that goes up a hill) up the hill and then follow the signs to walk to the Miro Foundation.
Make the Miro Foundation part of a day spent in the Monjuic district of Barcelona.
A line like this are infrequent, but try to do the Miro museum early just in case.
